                                                           How beneficial is education?

Parents and educators have the responsibility to inform children that the primary aim of education is not for economic purposes only, but also to provide "social benefits" for individuals and society at large, including a better way of taking care of themselves, and consequently creating a better society to live in.

  1. Hi Stella

Children and adolescence is a precious asset for parents, teachers, the community and as citizens. We need to invest our intellect, social resources and a range of resources in nurturing them and protecting them. This will be in the interest of long-term benefits for the socio -economic factors globally. There are no easy solutions to the challenges posed by all the bad things in the society, especially amongst children and adolescence as the most vulnerable groups of the population. The governments and other institutions in the name of social development should continue to take the lead in creating policy environments that facilitate appropriate intervention, provide resources and national infrastructures, and research funding and accountability systems. Communities need to create and sustain effective strategies to collaborate, prevent and develop moral character.

Families should seriously re-examine its role and responsibility as a socializing and nurturing agent. The family as an institution is breaking down; on the other hand, it is continually cited as one of the powerful agents of social change and social support system in most clinical interventions. The challenge is what kind of strategies and processes societies can generate to combat and respond to the challenges. (http://www.icsw.org/global-conferences/mazibuko.htm)

Education also acts as a source of hope for the most alarming issues that the current generation is forced to face. For education to mean anything it needs to encompass more than just physical access, or getting through the school gates. It should include the ability to participate and engage in meaningful education.
If we want meaningful learning to take place and to be able to make positive changes in the lives of our learners, then they need the emotional safety provided by an environment built upon support, nurturing, consideration, and mutual respect, a sense of belonging, protection, acceptance, encouragement, and understanding. In classrooms where the needs of learners are respected, where there is safety and trust and where there is compassion and engagement in learning, teachers can make a difference in learner’s lives. By identifying the difficulties that learners are having and assisting them to overcome it, teachers are in an ideal position to be an agent of change for all the learners in their care.

    Blessings
    Chrissie
